Kent Crusaders U16s, playing a thrilling game at Simon Langton School Canterbury on Saturday, gave their best display of the season to defeat second in the league Newham Youngbloods to avenge their heavy defeat in the away game earlier this season.

 Spurred on by coach Mark Hinton the Crusaders knew they would need a strong defensive game if they were to contain the Newham big men.And this they delivered with discipline and determination, including excellent rejections by an in form Ellis Winder. At the other end Rob Vassie and Ben Thomas (with two three pointers) led the scoring, with contributions from Ricky Williamson and Gabriel Mansfield giving a first quarter lead of 20-16.

Points were traded in the second quarter with Ibrahim Omer and Micah Wright getting on the score sheet. A frenetic third period saw Vassie and Thomas pile on the pressure along with baskets from Winder, Wright and Josh Gill giving 28 points for the quarter and a 12 point lead.

Newham fought back strongly in the final quarter but baskets from Harrison Sanders, Gill, Omer and Thomas meant the Crusaders ran out winners on 69-65. Man of the match was Ben Thomas with 27 points (and four three pointers). 

Next Sunday (15th) sees the Crusaders in action against Camden Jaz and a chance to make progress up the table.
