Haris Three PointerThe Medway Park Crusaders Basketball Club signed another player for next season’s squad this week as sharp shooting guard James Harris decided he would be back at the club for another season.

Harris is a veteran in the club as it will be his fifth full season with the club. His first game of next season will make him only the 4th player to play 100 games for Crusaders and he holds several club records. He set the club record for most three pointers made in a game with eight against Plymouth Raiders last season, holds the records for most three pointers made in a season with 86, and is second in career three pointers made with 186.  He is also the club’s 3rd leading career scorer.

Harris v Mets“James is a great shooter”, says Crusaders head coach Mads Olesen, “but he has developed his overall game greatly over the last four seasons. Where he used to be a one dimensional shooter he’s now a good defender and is good at driving to the basket.  He has really developed physically, spending lots of time in the gym and in the sports hall. He fits into our system very well, and it was a great priority to resign him for the new season.”

Last season Harris was an important factor in the Crusaders having their best ever season in Division 2, not least when he won the game against eventual champions Leeds with a last second three point dagger, but he states his teammates as the reason for his return:

“I’m really glad to continue another season alongside Sam Betts, Damian Lyons and the others. I believe we’re all starting to gel as teammates and it’s an honour to play alongside them. If all goes to plan it sounds like we could have a great set up for the season ahead”

Harris is also excited about the club’s move to Medway Park: “I’m looking forward to playing on the new floor when it’s finished and possibly having one of, if not the, best home court in the country, which should hopefully attract a few new fans as well as the ones from last year. Having a great crowd behind us gives us such a boost and we really appreciate those who support us.”

Club president Jesse Sazant worked hard to secure Harris’ return, and is happy with the result: “I’m really pleased that James has committed for another season at Crusaders. He has made a dedicated effort to improve and develop throughout his time at Crusaders. He has been one of our most consistent and reliable shooters and has really developed and improves his overall game.  He will play a key role in our success this season.”
