The U14’s played their fifth game of their preseason against the well established Southend Swifts from Essex.  The team travelled without four injured players, Big Man Jono Appiah (foot), Ayo Salawu (calf), Alex Armstrong (ankle) and Tyler Russell (ill).  In addition Liam Carpenter was away training with the South East APC.

The game started well for Crusaders, and despite missing their first 9 shots, Crusaders cruised into a 12 -0 lead in the first 5 minutes.  The first quarter ended 20-6.  In the second quarter we scored a further 27 points to make it 47-16 at the half.

During half time, the Crusaders where challenged by Coach Fenton to hit 100 points in the game and this kept the players working hard through the whole game despite the overwhelming lead.  The team had moved up to 83 by the end of the third quarter and ended up winning the Game 109-40.

Top scoring was Callum Thomas who scored 30pts. 5 other players also made double figures, Liam Robinson 10, Lee Memmott 10 Harry Willey 10, Tommy Dobson 22 and Ciaran Kelleher 13. All 9 players got on the score sheet including yr 7 James Lloyd.  Max Carpenter lead the team in assists with 7, Ciaran Kelleher had the most rebounds with 9 and Kyle Vincett lead the team in steals with 3.

Crusaders Coach Fenton was very pleased with his team’s effort in the second match against National League opposition.

The next game for the U14’s is Sunday 5th October 3pm at Canterbury High School v Maidstone Warriors.
