The Crusaders Basketball Academy based at The Canterbury High School picked up their 2nd win in the British Colleges Elite Division on Wednesday defeating West Kent College. This means they are 2 for 2. The game ended in the third quarter in bizarre circumstances as West Kent’s coach Joel Moore decided to forfeit the game and leave part way through.

The Medway Park Crusaders were hit hard as the swine flu decimated the team. During the week leading up to their game against the Edmonton Storm five of ten players were hit by the virus. Captain Sam Betts, big man JP Dimandja and point guards Tom Raymen and Jeff Wadey were unable to participate in the game while shooting guard James Harris recovered sufficiently to take part in the game, although he was far from 100%.

A 3 pointer by the Colchester Hornets took this weekends game into overtime after the Crusaders had battled back from being ten points down in the final quarter. Foul trouble and exhaustion took their toll and Kent fell 3 points short of their opponents in overtime. The Hornets have struggled this season but much like the Crusaders are better than their record suggests, and they’re still battling for a playoff spot.

The Kent Crusaders looked a tired team as they rallied to beat tough Plymouth Raiders II on Saturday but went out of the Patrons Cup at the semi-final stage in disappointing fashion. They are still feeling the effects of a packed first half of the season with a lot of long road trips and 4 games in the space of 9 days.

Parker v Leicester

The Kent Crusaders continue their revival in the England Basketball National League Division 2 with their fourth win in a row over fourth place Leicester Warriors, 62-50. It was a defensive battle where Leicester could only put 29 points on the board in the first three quarters, but made it almost all the way back in the fourth quarter.

Northampton Logo2Updated. Kent Crusaders Men are on a three game winning streak after beating Team Northumbria in a tough defensive battle.

“It was one of those games where both teams took away what the other team does best”, said Crusaders’ head coach Mads Olesen, “In the second half it just became about who could get more stops on defence, and in the end I think our experience won out.”

The Kent Crusaders got back to winning ways on Saturday with a 29 point victory at the previously undefeated league leaders NEWI Nets and on Sunday they beat the only winless team, University of Birmingham, by 26.
